What is a Satoshi?

A Satoshi is the smallest unit of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin. It is named after its mysterious inventor, who goes by the pseudonym "Satoshi Nakamoto". The name “Satoshi” is often used as an honorific to name the smallest unit of Bitcoin.

A Bitcoin (BTC) can be divided into many smaller units and a Satoshi is equal to one hundred millionth of a Bitcoin (0.00000001 BTC). In other words, 1 Bitcoin consists of 100 million satoshis.

To put it more simply, 1 Satoshi is the smallest fraction of a Bitcoin, similar to how 1 cent is the smallest fraction of a Euro.

The division into satoshis makes it possible to carry out even tiny transactions in Bitcoin without the need for an entire Bitcoin unit. It is a convenient unit of measurement to accurately express the value of Bitcoin, especially as the value of Bitcoin rises and the price in euros or other fiat currencies becomes higher and higher.
